major: Computer Science and Mathematics

During my internship at JPL, I worked with Dr. David Kass and Dr. Tim Schofield on the Mars Spacecraft Atmospheric Observations program. I was assigned the task of designing and writing software to calibrate the IMUs (Inertial Measurement Units) on board the Mars Exploration Rovers (Spirit and Opportunity). I also had to write a User’s Manual for it. David, Tim and other planetary and atmospheric scientists would use the output from my program to produce atmospheric models of Mars. In fact, Paul Wither, an atmospheric scientist from Boston University, has already used it to produce models of the Martian atmospheric density, pressure and temperature along the spacecraft path. These models would be used to predict, more accurately, how the Martian atmosphere would interact with future spacecraft missions.
